Description
The LRC will award $7,500 in scholarships to Polk County seniors for May graduates. Applicants submitted an essay to the Polk Education Foundation on how the sport of running has changed, impacted, or influenced the student's life.
We need 9 – 12 club members, to review and choose our scholarship award recipients. Members may not serve on the committee if they are a relative of an applicant for consideration by the selection committee. “Relative” is defined as a parent, sibling, stepparent, grandparent, step-grandparent, aunt, uncle, nephew, niece, or first cousin.
Scholarship packets will be distributed to volunteers via email, and selections need to be returned to the LRC within one week. We do not have a date yet from PEF on when we will receive the packets. We typically receive ~50 applicants, and you may need 2 to 3 hours to review and rank your choices.
The LRC has awarded scholarships with proceeds from the Summer Sunrise Watermelon Series since 2011. Starting in 2020, additional funding has come from generous support from individual donors.
LRC scholarship awards are not based on Gender, GPA, Financial Need, Community Service, or College Readiness (ACT/SAT).
